Floyd Little Double Dutch: What Do You Know?

If you are a fan of Bring It, on Lifetime TV, then you probably know who, Floyd Little Double Dutch is. The Newark, NJ Jump Ropers, are the newest reality, docu-series show to hit the airwaves. But this team wasn't created for a TV series. These guys already have bragging rights to 19 World Championships and over 20 years of experience in this sport.

Laila Little and Shaquannah Floyd are the Coaches who created the teams, that have rocked those World Championships. Best friends since grade school, Laila & Quanie had their minds made up, many years ago, to take their love for Double Dutch and use it to reach out, to kids in the Newark area. If you check out their website, one of the things you see is their love for what they do. Their Mission Statement sums up their lifetime goals in a few sententences. The ideals & values of giving back to the community you grew up in, whatever it takes ,to do that.

They started with the goal of empowering, as many in their community, as possible. The idea that getting kids involved in Double Dutch, which in turn, involved parents, was a winning concept, of course. Now after making Floyd Little Athletic Center a staple in Newark, not only has it made the their community closer and healthier, they have created a following across the country. Known as the face of Double Dutch, Floyd Little has performed at the White House Easter Celebration and they have also opened with, Pharrell & Missy Elliot at the 2014 BET Awards.

Now with the debut of the new show on Lifetime TV, we anticipate, many more people, are going to get to know and love these beautiful and talented Double Dutch Champions. We are hoping they get renewed and the network gives them enough time to build their following, for the show. Facebook and Twitter already have lit up, for just 3 shows. We know once people get to know them better, they will love them as much as their fan club does.

All of the girls involved in the show, have come out strong and showing great talent. They are all full of excitement and courage. If you haven't met the girls, you should check out their pictures on Facebook and on Lifetime TV. Just saying their names makes you want to watch and see what they can do. We have YaYa, Poision Ivy, Navy, Dez, Desi & Raspy. All very tough and dedicated to what they love to do
.

With all of the current stuff on TV that is either sex, drugs, murder or mayhem, seeing an actual show, focusing on what real kids, in real neighborhoods, in America, are doing, is amazing. Laila & Quanie are dedicated to these girls and all of the girls where they train and teach Double Dutch.

They have developed the Double Dutch Residency Program, that goes out to any city, anywhere to train people, who want to start their own team or have a team already that needs help. They offer information on anything it takes to get a team on their way to participating in events and competing in Double Dutch Competitions. If you have or want a team, contact them for information, on getting started.
So with the Competitive & Exhibition Team, The Double Dutch Residency Program(Training & Team Set Up) & their Fitness & Nutrition Class for Adults, their vow to serve the community and help make it healthier, has become a reality.

Many people grow up and leave their neighborhoods to do other things. Laila & Quanie knew from the beginning, they would be a part of the Newark Community forever. Their love for their neighbors and the kids growing up there, is apparent in all they do. They had a huge following before the show Jump, because of that love and dedication. We know they will continue to build in their community and across the country. If they get another season on TV, like we are praying they do, that community will take on the effect of our other favorite show, Bring It. Rolling across the country, giving girls and families the confidence to take on the world and go for their dreams, no matter their background or where they live.

We will continue to follow Coach Laila and Coach Quanie with the Floyd Little Double Dutch girls. Laila Little says of the show, "It's so surreal. After 20+ years of double dutch, the world will finally become aware of our life in those 2 little ropes!" The show is produced by Think Factory Media, who found Little and Floyd and chose them out of all the Double Dutch teams in the country! More info about the team: www.fldoubledutch.com

Don't really know what Double Dutch is? Well here is the technical definition

From Wikipedia:
Double Dutch is a game in which two long jump ropes turning in opposite directions are jumped by one or more players jumping simultaneously. It is popular worldwide. Competitions in double Dutch range from block parties to the world level. During the spring of 2009, double Dutch became a varsity sport in New York City public high schools.

It has been fancifully debated whether double Dutch came over with the first Dutch settlers or appeared in the first half of the 1900s. Playing double Dutch involves at least three people: one or more jumping, and two turning the ropes. A jumper usually performs tricks that may involve gymnastics or breakdance, and may also incorporate fancy foot movements.

Competitive Double Dutch
The National Double Dutch League holds yearly camps and a Holiday Classic, in which teams from all over the world compete. Double Dutch is also an integral part of USA Jump Rope Tournaments as well as AAU and the Junior Olympic Games.

The World Jump Rope Championships were held in July, 2012, at George Washington University, in Washington D.C. Double Dutch competitions are categorized as compulsory, freestyle, and speed rope.We know all of your Double Dutch Saavy folks didn't need that explanation but we have many new fans that may or may not know all the details of this cool sport.
